Traffic Stop Nets Drug Arrest

Bridgeport man nabbed with drugs and paraphernalia.

Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

A Bridgeport man was arrested Saturday morning after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and paraphernalia.

According to police, Jorge Lopez, 20, was pulled over on Kings Highway East, for having a broken driver’s side mirror and cracked windshield. A search of the vehicle was called for, leading police to discover two bags of hollowed out cigars, baggies, stems and a scale. These items were seized and taken to police headquarters where Lopez was charged with manufacture/sale of a restricted substance, use and possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal manufacture/ distribution of prescription medicine and possession of alcohol by a minor.

Lopez was issued a $10,000 bond and court date of Sept. 27.

Break-in attempt at towing company

A staff person at Auto Sales Towing Co., 102 Fiske Street, reported very early Sunday morning that someone tried to gain entry to the business by driving a vehicle through the bay door.

According to police, the tow operator went out on a job and, when he came back, around 3:15 a.m., he found damage to the business’ left bay door. There have been other similar burglary attempts in the area. In this incident, no access was gained. The damage to the door has not been estimated.

Scooter swiped

The homeowner at 224 Castle Ave. reported first thing Sunday morning that his scooter had been stolen overnight.

According to police, sometime after 9:30 p.m. the night prior, a blue 2001 Tao-Tao scooter, which had been parked in a space in front of the home and was locked on the front wheel, was taken. The value of the scooter is estimated at $750.

Fence vandalized

The homeowner at 836 Reef Road reported late morning Sunday that her fence had been vandalized overnight.

According to police, four sections of white fence and a support beam were missing. There was no estimate with regard to replacement cost or damage.

Criminal trespass arrest at Fairfield University

A Montclair, NJ man was arrested in the wee hours of the morning Saturday after he failed to heed repeated warnings to leave campus.

According to police, the man, Andrew Bryant, 19, a non-student, first showed up intoxicated and acting disorderly. He signed a trespassing warning form and was told not to return. He was later observed on campus again, in violation of the warning, and issued an infraction. He was seen yet again, after midnight, at Joag’s Hall. This last time, campus security called Fairfield Police and Bryan was arrested on a charge of criminal trespass. He was issued a $100 bond and court appearance date of Sept. 26.

Arrest in May home burglary

Investigative work led to the arrest Friday of a Stamford man for the commission of a home burglary on May 30.

According to police, the homeowner at 1609 Fairfield Beach Road, told police he returned home to find missing from the kitchen area a bottle of vodka, glass jar of coins valued at $25 and a small light brown leather purse containing cash, credit cards and a passport.

Arrested was Paul Defelice, 55, who was charged with third-degree burglary, fifth-degree larceny, credit card theft and illegal use of a credit card. He was issued a $10,000 bond and court date of Sept. 26.

Shoplifting at Stop & Shop

A Stamford woman was collared early afternoon Saturday after attempting to shoplift at Stop & Shop, 1160 Kings Highway Cutoff.

According to police, Adriana Labrasciano, 37, was seen in aisle 18 breaking apart items and putting them in her purse. She went to checkout, paid for only a few items and left the store. She did not pay for dolls, Dunkin Donuts coffee and a strawberry drink pack.

The value of the items was $47.

Labrasciano was issued a misdemeanor summons and released on a written promise to appear in court on Sept. 27.

Skytop Drive house burglarized

The homeowner at 181 Skytop Drive reported late morning Friday that her house had been burglarized.

According to police, the homeowner found a dresser drawer open and a medicine chest open, and other obvious signs of disruption. Police believe entry to the home was gained through an east-facing bathroom window. Reported missing was an HP Laptop ($1,000), a digital camera ($400), a second digital camera ($250) and a solar powered watch ($350).

Tires slashed

The homeowner at 475 Lenox Road reported early evening Friday that the passenger-side tires on her car had been slashed.

According to police, around 2:50 a.m., a neighbor hear a bang, came out and saw a rock laying on the ground that had been thrown at the house. It was then that the slashing was discovered. The value of the tires is estimated at $500.

Larceny at Home Depot

[Editor's note: The name of the arrested person has been removed from the story as the following charges have been dropped.]

A man was arrested early evening Saturday after trying to switch old tools for new and commit larceny at Home Depot, 541 Kings Highway Cutoff.

According to police, the suspect was observed by security trying to conceal $79 worth of merchandise on his person and walk past all points of payment. He was seen in the tool bay selecting a pair of pliers (retail $29) and switching it with a pair of pliers he had on him. He did the same with a floodlight, placing it in his left jacket pocket and walking out the front entrance.

The man was charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on a promise to appear in court on Sept. 28.
