Trunks Targeted in Gym Parking Lot Break-Ins

Police are investigating reports of thefts or attempted thefts of belongings placed in trunks in The Edge Fitness Club parking lot.

Police are investigating reports of thefts from cars in the parking lot of The Edge Fitness Club on Kings Highway Cutoff.

On Wednesday, a woman reported that two purses were stolen from the trunk of her car, which she believes may have been left open because she accidentally hit the button on the car's keyless device, police said.

The purses totaled $209. Also stolen were a $50 wallet and $60 in cash, police said. The woman told police she placed the items in her trunk after she had parked.

On Thursday, a second woman reported to police that the driver's side window of her vehicle was smashed and believes someone tried to open her trunk from the inside of the car. The trunk was not entered, but the woman said she had placed her purse in the trunk after parking the car. The window damage is estimated at $1,000.

Police believe someone may be watching the parking lot for people who place their belongings in their cars' trunks, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier.  This is under investigation.
