Two More Fake $100 Bills Used in Fairfield

are investigating a report of two fake $100 passed at a downtown business Tuesday—an incident believed to be related to a similar crime committed nearby.

A black man of medium height and crooked yellow teeth, wearing a puffy yellow jacket and smelling of alcohol, reportedly passed a counterfeit $100 bill at Sweet Rexie’s candy shop on Tuesday for about $10 in goods, according to Sgt. Sue Lussier, public information officer with the Fairfield Police Department.

“He walked around and came back with more items and paid with another $100 bill,” Lussier said. “The girls in the store were young. They got nervous because he was loud and persistent. The girls resisted giving him change, but they became uncomfortable.”

The shop’s bookkeeper reported the incident to police at 8:36 p.m. All told, the suspect made off with about $180 in cash.

The day before, Monday, a different, white man reportedly to buy $10 in takeout food. Police have traced the vehicle that man left in to Bridgeport as part of an ongoing investigation.

Police say they’re investigating a corporate book of documents reported stolen at 11:32 a.m. Tuesday from Collimore & Collimore attorney’s office.

An 11-year-old former student reportedly vandalized Holland Hill School. Police said the school’s secretary at 12:38 p.m. Tuesday reported that the youth damaged the school’s front intercom with a rock. Video surveillance showed the $100 in damage was caused at about 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 26, police said. The incident is under investigation, Lussier said.

Police are investigating an incident in the parking lot at Planet Fitness, 111 Black Rock Turnpike, where a dark blue or black truck or SUV struck another vehicle and left the scene. The incident, reported at 6:23 p.m. Tuesday, is under investigation, Lussier said.
