Two Fairfield residents — a man and a woman — were arrested Tuesday after a road rage incident escalated into a physical altercation, according to a police report released Wednesday morning.

Police said the incident took place shortly after 9 p.m. on Black Rock Turnpike near the intersection of Stillson Road. A 24-year-old woman — the one arrested — had called police to report that she had been punched in the face during a road rage incident, the report states.

According to police, the woman, Bianca Brillant, was driving southbound on Black Rock Tpke when a Honda CRV started to “brake check” her, almost causing her to rear-end the vehicle. At the intersection, she reportedly got out of her car and approached the operator to inquire why he was “brake checking” her.

Brilliant told police that the man, identified as Jason Oliveira, 33, punched her in the face, called her a racial slur and then drove away. She sustained a bloody lip and refused medical attention at the scene, police said.

Oliveira told police that Brilliant walked up to his driver’s window and started yelling vulgarities at him. He stated that he pushed her face with his left hand after she put her head inside his window. Oliveira had a small bruise on his left finger, police said.

Oliveira, of Congress Street, was charged with third-degree assault, intimidation based on bias or bigotry, and second-degree breach of peace. He was released after posting $10,000 bond and was given a court date of Feb. 12.

Brillant, of Villa Avenue, was charged with second-degree breach of peace. She was released on a written promise to appear in court on Feb. 12.

She was following too close, but he was given $10,000 bail while she walks on OR. Is this reverse bias, or what?
Jason Silver February 06, 2014 at 09:37 AM
SHE initiated the conflict by getting out of her car and approaching the the other car. Saw this on Judge Judy once:)

Too many people in a rush to get nowhere.
JANE B February 06, 2014 at 11:00 AM
She may have been following too closely... don't most people these days ?? rush rush rush .... all idiots. But punching her in the face is not a solution. jerk.
Igor February 06, 2014 at 11:33 AM
Jane, that's her story. His differs. Obviously she also has a bit of a temper. I'm also quite show she politely went up and asked him in her Sunday church voice why he was tapping his brakes. Automatically you take her side? BTW maybe he thought it was icy and that's why he was doing it. I also bet she's one of the ones who blow their horns when the driver in front doesn't want to turn on red for some reason.
Igor February 06, 2014 at 11:34 AM
BTW S. Frank what would you think would cause this bias?
Pat Trish Kolesar February 08, 2014 at 10:59 AM
There is so much wrong with these allegations & making this guy Jason to be the bad guy which is quite the opposite...first off why only his pic if both got arrested? second do you remember that day? roads very icy & dangerous & she is on his ass? thirdly, who the hell gets out of there car, yelling & sticks their face in a strangers car getting in their face & doesn't expect to get pushed, not knowing who this nut was & if she had a weapon, etc...She should be glad that it was Jason & not somebody else; she probably would have ended up in the hospital...She is a bully & someone who definately needs help, meds, something if she is gonna be on the road & think she can get away with this crap...How dare you, who the hell do you think you are!
Igor February 08, 2014 at 04:57 PM
Pat I couldn't agree with you more. It's too bad she didn't hit him from behind. Then she really would have a lot of explaining to do. I still done know if there weren't any witnesses close enough to hear and see the exchange. The whole thing is lopsided. How many times do they take the word of the female, no matter what the man says. I hate to think of the reasoning behind this. I can think of two and either one is good.

Tailgating and aggressive driving are now the norm. I experience it everyday by men ,women, and kids. Nothing like a giant pick-up truck on your rear bumper with two sets of headlights glaring in your rearview mirror. One technique I like to use when I encounter someone on my ass is to deploy my windshield wipers with plenty of washer fluid. They usually get the hint and back off. Works most of the time. Any one who leaves their car to confront the other driver is automatically seen as the aggressor, right or wrong. If people would just learn the basic rules of the road and be more courteous ,the world would be a better place in some small way. Happy Motoring!!

Gee Joe, don't you realize that some people's lives are way more important than everyone else's ? It's absolutely imperative that they answer the phone while driving, or race home to sit on their butts on the couch to watch TV five minutes earlier. One big problem is that people forget what the laws are. Either that or they can't read. Do they know what the word yield means? How about the word stop? They sure in hell don't know what courteous means.
brian kelly February 09, 2014 at 10:55 PM
if they were both arrested where is her photograph? she approached his vehicle. she stuck her head into his vehicle and violated his space. she was screaming obscenities at him. and if you want to get away with murder in this country, just bring race into it!

Everyone is being pc in town.
Jason Silver February 10, 2014 at 08:46 PM
She was black. Therefore, no picture from The Patch. Only Whites commit crimes these days.
Igor February 10, 2014 at 09:19 PM
He should say his parents are rich and they didn't teach him right from wrong. Worked for Couch in Texas.
fatmancarruthers February 11, 2014 at 06:40 AM
Show both mugshots or none at all. What a joke. Beware when people start not only getting arrested and charged for things they say, but for things they allegedly said! Shameless.
Jason Silver February 11, 2014 at 05:57 PM
Anyone from The Patch want to explain why the White Man's face is shown but not the Black Woman's?
brian kelly February 11, 2014 at 08:25 PM
Thanks Jason! you just said what everyone in this town is thinking. i doubt that you will get a response from the patch on this matter. a conspiracy of silence speaks louder than words...
Calin Popplewell February 16, 2014 at 03:30 PM
He was defending himself when a person he thought was a man was banging on the window of his father's car screaming.. so he rolled the window down so that the person wouldn't break it and then the person proceeded to reach in and grab him so he SHOVED her face out of the car and took off not knowing if the person had a weapon or not. so this is 100% a classic case of reverse racism.. she got out of that car looking for a fight and he didn't do anything but defend himself. the author of this article should have never posted his picture without posting the other person's picture too. The media likes to accuse people of things before the case even goes to court so now he looks like he punched an innocent woman in the face when in fact he didn't. What happened to "innocent until proven guilty IN A COURT OF LAW"? the court of public opinion doesn't count especially when the media is giving ALL the wrong info.
Igor February 16, 2014 at 03:58 PM
Calin, believe me the majority of people on here know exactly what is going on. Everyone has to PC, we wouldn't want be accused of being bias. Hopefully the judge will see the fallacy of the charges. I would like to know exactly what the cop was thinking when he issue the arrest.
fatmancarruthers February 16, 2014 at 09:55 PM
Yes. These cops should stick to scanning license plates, harassing HS and Fairfield U kids, not catching armed robbers, and raking in 100k plus a year. They do a great job at those things.

Good Morning All Been reading the Posts for a Couple of Days Now ......Interesting !!!!!! Seems strange coming from an All(or 97% Middle/upper class White Town) who has so much to sat about others!!!! Yes a Town where 85 % of it's tax baxse rests on Residential base and OMG if the property values drop !!!!! A Town where anything east of Black Rock Turnpike is considered another world(Bridgeport???), a Town where sometimes it's attitude and it's press mask it's Bias. A Town where some of our more well heeled residents driving their SUV's commit the same acts !!!!!!! There is one word for this-----HYPOCRISY!!!!!!! Are we all a bit Hypocritical???
Igor February 17, 2014 at 07:04 AM
no
Sean February 21, 2014 at 01:28 PM
This is a case of two idiots....The woman who's following so closely and,the woman who gets out the car for confrontation!!Shame on Oliveira for hitting that woman and using racial slurs.he deserved to be arrested but, tailgaters are annoying!
Jason Silver February 21, 2014 at 06:23 PM
Like I said earlier...This exact situation was on Judge Judy episode. The lady is wrong becasue she got out of her car and approached the man's car. She could have easily avoided the confrontation by staying in her car. Her temper got the best of her.
Igor February 21, 2014 at 08:36 PM
Sean you are obviously you are taking the woman's side. It hasn't been proven he called her anything nor that he hit her. She is saying this. He is saying he pushed her out of the window. Where are you getting your information?
Jim Eastwood February 22, 2014 at 06:35 AM
Good Moring All !!! We are missing the point here---Both were wrong !!! But in true FAIR ??? Field way---an All white, Middle Class Town who pays "Lip Service" to equality bit doesn't PRACTICE it and who is more worried about their "Property Values" and their Spoiled Protected(From the Real world" Children needs a reality check. Black Rock Turnpike along with the Post road ahs become a "ZOO" with SELF CENTERED people driving their SUV's while talking on the Cell Phones, worried about their OWN Self Centered Interests not caring about anyone else. Stop bashing others especially Bridgeport and Look at YOURSELVES !!!!!
Igor February 22, 2014 at 07:05 AM
I would still like to know where everyone get's their inside information, so they can pass judgement. We only know what we read, and sometimes that's not as factual as it should be.
Joeseph Biff February 22, 2014 at 07:23 AM
Bravo Jim Eastwood!
Sean February 22, 2014 at 09:48 AM
S.Frank..Shes guilty of tailgating which is also known as vehicle intimidation, but she didnt hit anyone.Im not defending her at all,I despise foolish drivers like her,but this guy took it too far with the racial slurs and punching in the face...Serious issues there.
Joeseph Biff February 22, 2014 at 02:35 PM
This sounds like one of those he said/she said casese.Perhaps the only people who will really ever know what actually happened are the two involved. She was definitely wrong for tailgating, getting out of her car and supposedly banging on his window. If she stuck her face into the interior of his car and he pushed her in the face to get her to back off, then he,in my humble opinion did the right thing. She claims she was punched? Too bad for her! That's what you get for intimidating someone. Who knows if that's the truth either. If he used racial slurs he's wrong. So folks.........let's let this one go and move on
