Vandalism, Break-ins Reported in Fairfield, Southport

Was your neighborhood hit by vandals overnight?

Residents reported a slew of vandalisms and car break-ins Monday and early Tuesday, according to police.

A Pequot Avenue homeowner reported to police late Tuesday that someone had taken a marble flower urn from her doorstep and threw it into the road, destroying the $800 decoration.

An unlocked car was reportedly entered on Orchard Hill Drive just before midnight Monday. The complainant told police that he saw three or four suspects enter the vehicle, which was parked in the man's driveway, and walk away. The complainant said the glove box had been rummaged through and a pair of sunglasses was stolen.

Officers located three males walking nearby but determined they did not appear to have entered the car or taken anything from it.

Two mailboxes were knocked off their posts on Fairfield Woods Road sometime overnight Monday into Tuesday. The first mailbox was estimated at $100; the other at $200.

Construction equipment near the Westway Road Bridge in Southport was vandalized sometime overnight, a complainant reported early Tuesday. The windshield of a Mack tractor truck was smashed, as were the windows on an excavator. A construction helmet valued at $15 was reported stolen.

A Pequot Avenue resident reported Tuesday that his mailbox was damaged overnight. He told police he saw four skateboarders ride by his house around 9 p.m. on Monday, and heard "strange noises," but didn't see the damaged mailbox until the morning. 

Nearby on Center Street, staff at the Wakemen Boys and Girls Club reported a window on the building had been smashed sometime overnight.

A Glen Arden Drive resident told police Tuesday that his car, which was parked in the driveway, had been entered overnight. It was unclear how entry was gained -- the complainant said he thought he had locked the car -- but there were pry marks on the interior panel on the doors. Some of the panel on the interior of the passenger side front door was torn away.

An iPod Touch valued at $200 and $25 in cash was reported stolen.
