Video: Airborne Car Crashes into Fairfield Cumberland Farms
Calls to 9-1-1 moments after report seeing a car fly airborne through the parking lot at 100 mph.
Fairfield police released video footage Tuesday of a car going airborne and careening into the front of the Cumberland Farms store on Kings Highway East Monday night.
The incident, which was caught by a camera at a car dealership across the street, sent four people to the hospital — including the female driver and an 18-month-old girl that was in a parked car — though luckily all with non-life threatening injuries.
The first call to 9-1-1 came at 8:48 from inside the Cumberland Farms, with three more panicked calls coming in to police within the minute.
Callers reported the car barreling off the interstate exit at what seemed like 100 mph, crashing into barriers and other vehicles before slamming into the front of the building and catching fire.
Police have yet to release the woman’s identity but said she had an international driver’s license issued in Guatemala.
The investigation is ongoing into why the woman was driving erratically and what caused the accident, though police stated Monday that charges are likely unless there are medical issues or some other extenuating circumstances.
