Warning: Package Thief on the Loose in Fairfield

Residents are reporting a rash of mailbox and UPS/Fedex thefts in one Southport neighborhood.

Fairfield police to residents ordering holiday gifts to be delivered to the front door – don’t. Arrange to have your packages delivered elsewhere -- one resident has had three packages stolen on three separate days, according to department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier.

A Village Lane resident reported over that packages were taken from her doorstep on Dec. 5, Dec. 8, and Dec. 9, Lussier said.

A fellow Southport resident contacted Patch to report the incidents, as well as other thefts from mailboxes, and confirmed with police that the occurrences are being investigated and extra patrols have been assigned to the area.

The resident said there have been several reports in the Southport-Mill Hill neighborhood of a suspicious maroon Ford Explorer operated by a woman with short blonde hair who has reportedly been spotted walking around the neighborhood with a blue backpack.

Lussier reiterated that residents can arrange to have UPS and other delivery services bring packages to a destination other than the front door (for example, to the receiver’s place of work). Otherwise packages can be picked up from the nearest UPS/Fedex store.
