West Haven Cop Detains Shoplifting Suspect in Fairfield

The officer was off-duty, police said.

A Bridgeport man was charged with sixth-degree larceny Wednesday after he allegedly shoplifted $114 worth of items from Kohl's, police said.

An off-duty West Haven cop noticed Raphael Lachapelle, 24, reportedly run out of Kohl's, reach into his backpack, and discard what turned out to be the stolen merchandise, according to police.

The off-duty officer detained Lachapelle until Fairfield police arrived and arrested the suspect.

Lachapelle was released on a promise to appear in court on Sept. 12.
