Woman, 70, Gets DUI Charge

Witnesses said Jane McAllister was driving recklessly in the parking lot of Stop & Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff.

A 70-year-old Fairfield woman was charged with driving under the influence Friday morning after the vehicle she was driving allegedly hit a curb at the on Kings Highway Cutoff, police said.

Witnesses said the driver, identified by police as Jane McAllister of Field Point Road, appeared disoriented when she exited her vehicle after hitting the curb, according to the report. Responding officers had to shift the vehicle out of reverse and into park.

The responding officer noted the odor of an alcoholic beverage on McAllister's breath and said she was having a hard time taking her license out of her wallet, according to the report.

Tests revealed McAllister had an elevated blood alcohol content, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said. She was released to her husband after posting a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 17.
