Woman Charged with Swiping $80 in Gum

Rosaline Gaffey, 33, was charged with sixth-degree larceny, police said.

A Bridgeport woman was charged with sixth-degree larceny after she allegedly swiped $80 worth of gum from the Villa Avenue police said.

Loss prevention employees told officers they spotted Rosaline Gaffey, 33, load a basket with 20 packs of gum and before she allegedly attempted to leave the store without paying.

Gaffey, who also had a warrant for her arrest issued by the New Britain police department, was held on a $500 bond by Fairfield police and a $10,000 bond by the New Britain department.

She is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 14.

An employee at the on Black Rock Turnpike reported to police Thursday that a counterfeit $10 had been used at the coffee shop on July 31.

The fraudulent bill was slightly smaller than an actual bill and the texture was different, according to the report. A counterfeit pen confirmed the bill was a fake.

The counterfeit money was tagged as evidence. Police are investigating.

A Fairfield man was charged with breach of peace on Thursday after he allegedly told employees at a local grocery store that "this place is going to blow up," police said.

Employees at the on Kings Highway Cutoff told police that Douglas Henry Neil, 44, had reportedly argued with staff at the service desk before yelling the store would "blow up," according to the report.

When officers located Neil, they detected an odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and reportedly admitted to drinking, police said. Neil also reportedly told police he "didn't do nothing" when they interviewed him.

Neil was turned over to his wife and released on a promise to appear in court on Monday.
