Budget Cuts Coming Amid Connecticut’s Deficit Woes

Approximately $150 million will be cut by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in the coming days.

Faced with a deficit that keeps growing, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy will be cutting approximately $150 million from the state budget this week.

According to the Hartford Courant, that’s the most the governor is allowed by law to cut. State legislators will reportedly have to find $200 million in savings by the end of the year in the $2 billion budget.

The deficit is expected to total $1.1 billion in the next fiscal year and is already at $265 million for this year in the biennial budget.

Gov. Malloy said that fixing the deficit will not require new taxes and that poor economic conditions affecting much of the country are to blame.

He can start with his pay. He has not earned it.

Malloy blames everyone except the democrats who got us into this mess. But we idiot voters keep re-electing the same bozos!

Thomas Paine, good to hear from you. I heard you died, like, a 100 years ago! Anyway, you'reRead More right, but what does it matter? No one attending this meeting is interested in anything balanced. I don't know if you've had much opportunity to spend time in Sandy Hook but, that's a broken community. The emotional level is really, really high. More than anything, these folks have a need to "do something" (rather than address their hurt and seek closure). This is a meeting for people to pour out emotion, and find a common enemy (guns) to blame. There is no debate there. There is nothing for you there. If this is what they need, let them have it. The adversarial approach is bound for failure anyway. People get tired of listening to it, and tired of the threats. Also keep in mind, there are a bunch of these folks that earn their living doing this now (screwed up!) and they need to be very careful in how they manage their publicity to stay within IRS non-profit rules--political action is not community enrichment is not a church--got to keep them separated.

Atticus, Ralph Arnone is next scheduled to appear in court on July 1st, at which point he isRead More expected to enter a plea. As an aside, one isn't supposed to go to bed and wake up still angry at the same thing, day in, day out, week in, week out, month in, month out... I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I care deeply about firefighters and I'm genuinely concerned about you. You were exposed to a lot of chemicals in your career. You may have some endocrine system damage or something causing an electrolyte disorder. This stuff starts out with things like joint pain and minor psychological implications but, it gets much, much worse. Get to the doc. Maybe you're just a spicy guy, maybe Ralph hurt you in some terrible way, or maybe you are sick and as a result, you'll be facing a much shortened a painful life. Honestly, I'm not trying to give you a hard time or pick a fight.
