Campaign Notebook: Himes Channels Brando in Fundraising Letter

Senate

Chris Shays (R): With the finances and polls not in his favor for the August primary, Shays has tapped Karl Rove, the deputy chief of staff of George W. Bush’s administration, for a boost. The two appeared at an event in Greenwich last week, according to the Greenwich Post.

Susan Bysiewicz (D): With the primary in August, Bysiewicz is lagging in the polls compared to the leading Chris Murphy. Her campaign website is also behind, with the last update posted on May 22.

Fourth District

Jim Himes (D): After Himes’ opponent talked of being labeled a “contender” by the Republican National Committee. In a fundraising letter published by Only in Bridgeport, Himes said Steve Obsitnik was being propped up by the committee.

My opponent is doing nothing but raising money, and he’s trying to make the case that he can contend in November. It’s up to us to make sure that when November comes, he’s looking in the mirror, lamenting “I coulda been a contender … I coulda been somebody …”

Steve Obsitnik (R): The campaign Facebook page took a break from the typical elections photos and news to share information about various cooling centers around Fairfield County opening up due to the extreme heat. .
