Longtime PTA Volunteer Announces School Board Candidacy

Dorene Herron seeks the Republican nomination at the party's town-wide caucus on July 23.

Longtime PTA volunteer and community advocate Dorene Herron announced her candidacy Tuesday for one of the four seats up for grabs on the Board of Education come November.

She is seeking the Republican nomination at the party’s town-wide caucus on July 23.

Herron served as the Roger Sherman Elementary School PTA Board of Education representative for the past two years. She also served as the school's PTA president during the 2010-2011 school year.

She has been actively involved in town meetings and school committees for nearly seven years. Herron served as a community representative to the Board of Education Facilities, Technology and Long Term Planning subcommittee task force on redistricting in 2009 and as a member of the parent focus group of the draft pre-K through second grade math curriculum in 2012.

Herron holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Loyola University in Maryland and a Master of Arts in Social Relations from Lehigh University. She formerly worked as a Research Executive for Millward Brown in Fairfield,  a leading global research agency, and its parent company WPP in New York.

Herron is a parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and a member of the Gaelic-American Club. She has been a longtime volunteer for the Girl Scouts of Connecticut, for which she worked as a leader for two separate troops. She is currently a team manager for Fairfield United Soccer.

Herron and her husband, Liam, moved to Fairfield in 2002 and have three children. Their oldest daughter Madeline attends Roger Ludlowe Middle School. The Herron's younger daughter, Laura, and son, Nolan, attend Roger Sherman Elementary School.
