Dr. George Lacovara: Fairfielder of the Year

Lifelong resident George Lacovara -- longtime civic volunteer and local dentist -- awarded top civic honor by the Board of Selectmen.

Lifelong Fairfield resident Dr. George Lacovara was named the 2012 Fairfielder of the Year Wednesday by the Board of Selectmen.

Born and raised in Fairfield, Lacovara practiced dentistry in town and has served on many Fairfield boards and commissions, including the Police Commission and the Board of Health. He served as chairman of both bodies.

Lacovara also served as the president of the Kiwanis, currently holds a position on the Fairfield Ethics Commission, and is a Eucharistic Minister at St. Pius X Parish.

"In hundreds of ways, Dr. George Lacovara has served the people of the town of Fairfield," Janet Canepa, Director of Alumni Relations at Fairfield University, stated in her nomination. Lacovara is a Fairfield University graduate and former president of the school's Alumni Association.

The criteria for choosing a Fairfielder of the Year include outstanding volunteer commitment and exceptional personal qualities like leadership, initiative, reliability, integrity, cooperation, and spirit.

"He is an example role model and inspiration for goodness," Canepa told the Board of Selectmen on Wednesday. "He is a man for others."

Lacovara's wife, Joan, and family accepted the award on his behalf, as he was unable to make the meeting due to illness.

"He is a wonderful man who served this town for decades well beyond the list we've already heard," Selectman Kevin Kiley added.

Atticus, Ralph Arnone is next scheduled to appear in court on July 1st, at which point he isRead More expected to enter a plea. As an aside, one isn't supposed to go to bed and wake up still angry at the same thing, day in, day out, week in, week out, month in, month out... I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I care deeply about firefighters and I'm genuinely concerned about you. You were exposed to a lot of chemicals in your career. You may have some endocrine system damage or something causing an electrolyte disorder. This stuff starts out with things like joint pain and minor psychological implications but, it gets much, much worse. Get to the doc. Maybe you're just a spicy guy, maybe Ralph hurt you in some terrible way, or maybe you are sick and as a result, you'll be facing a much shortened a painful life. Honestly, I'm not trying to give you a hard time or pick a fight.
