Governor Dannel Malloy on announced Thursday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended the deadline to register for Superstorm Sandy disaster assistance from Jan. 28, 2013 to Feb. 12, 2013, according to a press release sent by his office.
“With more than $37 million in federal aid approved already, there has clearly been a need for assistance for many residents,” Malloy said. “Extending this deadline will ensure that any resident or business affected by Storm Sandy has ample time to apply for federal aid. We will continue with the recovery process until everyone’s life is back to normal.”
To date, over $37 million in federal disaster assistance has been approved to help Connecticut residents with disaster-related expenses. The following stats were provided by Malloy's office:
- Over 12,000 Connecticut residents in Fairfield, Middlesex, New Haven, and New London counties, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, and the Mohegan Tribal Nation have registered for federal disaster assistance.
- More than $10.7 million has been approved for housing assistance, including short-term rental assistance and home repair costs.
- More than $849,000 has been approved to cover other essential disaster-related needs, such as medical and dental expenses and lost personal possessions.
- More than $26.4 million in Small Business Administration Loans (SBA) loans have been approved.
