Jay Lipp has announced his candidacy for Representative Town Meeting (RTM) District 1 in Fairfield in a Republican Caucus to be held on July 23. Since 2012, Lipp has been an active voice representing the residents of District 1.

“I am most proud of my efforts to save the Pequot Library, the reduction in the proposed budgets and curbed tax increases," Lipp said in the release announcing his candidacy. "I will continue to support future long term repairs and improvements necessary to preserve and protect neighborhoods of District One and the Town of Fairfield.”

“While most of the email and phone calls from residents concerns the affordability of living in Fairfield, we must look deeper into why and what factors contribute to the ever increasing rate of taxation," Lipp continued. "The size and redundancy of services  between the town and the board of education; two public works, two human resources, two payrolls and two benefits systems, much of which could be either combined or outsourced, would not only increase efficiency but reduce your tax burden.”

“While our taxes have increased, fewer dollars make it into the classroom to pay for programs that directly affect our children’s education. Increased overhead cost, Central Office staff, redundancy with other town services, has resulted in cutting programs, vice increasing efficiencies or outsourcing.”

He is currently the principal at the new Multi-District Aero/Hydrospace Engineering High School, where dozens of Fairfield students will attend when it opens in August.

“It is an honor and privilege to serve my fellow citizens from District 1 and I kindly ask for your support,” Lipp said.

He supports the following Smarter Spending Candidates: For Board of Education -- John Llewellen and Eileen Liu-McCormack; for RTM District 1 -- Eric Sundman, John Donovan, and Gaylord Meyer.
