Gun Owners' Names, Addresses Could Become Public

A West Haven lawmaker has introduced a bill to make public the names of some 170,000 gun owners in Connecticut.

If you own a gun in this state your name and address could become public under a bill introduced in the General Assembly by State Rep. Stephen D. Dargan, D-West Haven.

Dargan filed the proposal in response to the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown that killed 20 children and 6 women on Dec. 14. His proposal would overturn a law passed in Connecticut 20 years ago that keeps private the names and addresses of gun owners.

In an interview with the Hartford Courant, Dargan said he wants gun ownership information to fall under the state's Freedom of Information Act in part so that parents can know whether the parents of their child's friends have guns in their homes.

"Maybe their kids are going over to Johnny Smith's, and maybe they want to see whether they have guns in the house," he told the newspaper.

Dargan's proposal follows another bill that was filed recently that seeks to limit who can own gun ammunition in Connecticut and to keep such ammunition out of the hands of felons. Gun control issues are expected to dominate the General Assembly's winter session, which formally begins next week, in the wake of the Newtown massacre.

Sandra - If you read my prior posts, you'll see that I listed some exceptions I would make to the disclosure rule, which include the categories of people that led to R. Ludlowe changing his mind.
Frederick Klein January 07, 2013 at 02:56 PM
Let's not turn this into a male-female issue. I've seen disrespect from both sides (conservative and liberal), and I have been shown disrespect by women on this board (looking at Sandra), so I don't think this has anything to do with gender at all. People are just plain disrespectful in general.

Can we all at least agree that Mr. Tarbusho's post is weird?
Ignatius Reilly January 07, 2013 at 04:03 PM
I posted this last night and no one said a word. I am not trying to get into a back and forth or fight with anyone but am very curious as to how the pro-gun people on this board feel about a list of anti-gun supporters? Is the outrage there as well. Personally I'm conflicted on both sides but people here are very enthusiastic to voice their opinions. So my question is:Are you as outraged that someone compiled and published a list of anti-gun supporters as you are that someone published a list of gun owners. Thank you. http://dailycaller.com/2012/03/01/the-big-list-of-who-hates-guns/

I would like to know if I am neighbors with any mentally sick individuals. Especially with all the shootings they are committing.
Frederick Klein January 07, 2013 at 04:35 PM
Hmm. Your neighbors might be interested in that, too. :-/
Ignatius Reilly January 07, 2013 at 07:16 PM
Rita-I'm not singling you out but you're the only person to answer my question. Are you ok with the list of anti-gun supporters yet not ok with the list of gun owners? And if so, why? Also, I ask everyone else to answer as well. I am genuinely curious. And again, I don't have a side yet. This is a difficult decision to make. Thank you again.

Right to privacy for both so NO. It's public info so you can look someone up if you want to know right? Problem is the wrongdoers are the ones with illegal guns and are not registered.
Sandra January 07, 2013 at 08:06 PM
Bravo Rita!
R. Ludlowe January 07, 2013 at 08:16 PM
I just spit my coffee.
R. Ludlowe January 07, 2013 at 08:20 PM
Rita/Sandra, I think you misunderstand me. I am not the least bit chauvinistic. I do, however, love to call out hypocrisy and BS when I see it... and on this page just seem to be projected by the two of you more than anyone else. The fact that you are both (supposedly) women is just circumstantial.
Sandra January 07, 2013 at 08:47 PM
R. Ludlowe- How have I been hypocritical? What BS have I spread? You are a typical Liberal who makes character assassinations without any facts. I have shared common views with other but no one was told to "shut up". And meter maids add more value to society than your useless banter on a blog. You should ent and put your "solutions" into action.
R. Ludlowe January 07, 2013 at 08:56 PM
At least I don't use a PLAYBOY model as my avatar on this forum: http://www.askmen.com/women/galleries/model/jaime-bergman/picture-2.html care to explain that one? I guess you didn't see the connection between your name and a famous Beatles song. My bad. And yes, I'm still waiting for a glimmer of intelligence from either your "Sandra" account or your "Rita" account. Doesnt matter to me what you say your gender is, because on the Internet chances are you are a guy anyway.
R. Ludlowe January 07, 2013 at 09:46 PM
You chose it to defame her? Please keep talking. Can't make this up.
Frederick Klein January 07, 2013 at 09:46 PM
A cursory review of the SGT. PEPPER album reveals that "lovely Rita" was indeed a "meter maid", and that this particular "Rita" is using a model as her photo on her Patch account. But how did you come to the conclusion that "Rita" was "Sandra", R.L.?
R. Ludlowe January 07, 2013 at 10:10 PM
It's just a hunch, Frederick. I'm sure the same will be said about us, but the timing of Rita's posts to Sandra's are very close, and they always seem to pat each other on the back. I've also never seen them both publicly at the same time. Once you see someone use a Playboy model as their avatar you start to question alot of things I guess. Prediction: the playboy avatar gets changed within 12 hours Counter-prediction: because I predicted this, he will keep it to show that he's tough.
Frederick Klein January 07, 2013 at 10:35 PM
To my knowledge, R. Ludlowe and I are not the same person. Long ago, we traded posts about our dogs, and our dogs sounded nothing alike. In fact, our dogs disagreed with each other quite bitingly.
Frederick Klein January 07, 2013 at 10:36 PM
It's quite humorous that you are putting down R.Ludlowe for recognizing the model that YOU used as your avatar. Clearly, you are famliar with this woman, as well.
R. Ludlowe January 07, 2013 at 10:39 PM
I was just about to say the same thing.
R. Ludlowe January 07, 2013 at 10:41 PM
I'm telling you, you cannot make this stuff up. I love that we are now playing what my 5 year old calls the "copying game." I make a motion that this commenting thread be closed. Any seconds?
R. Ludlowe January 07, 2013 at 10:43 PM
Oh, and I need to give Google the credit for the model recognition. I just dragged the avatar into the search box and up came all kinds of pictures of this woman. I had a hunch.
Frederick Klein January 07, 2013 at 10:47 PM
Well, you see, RL, you just agreed with me again, and did it within a short time span after my post, supporting the argument that you and I are the same person.
Frederick Klein January 07, 2013 at 10:52 PM
Are we really debating with someone who uses terms like "donkey doo doo" and "dogpoop"?
R. Ludlowe January 07, 2013 at 10:55 PM
Whoa! Rita is some kind of hacker! How did he get our passwords?!? Now I'll have to create new ones for my Ludlowe, Frederick, Fairfield Old Timer and Abraham Gold accounts!
R. Ludlowe January 07, 2013 at 10:59 PM
What's a "beehind?"
Frederick Klein January 07, 2013 at 11:00 PM
Is this your attempt to make up for your "poop" and "doo doo" remarks by displaying some kind of maturity? Apparently not.
Alrick H Man IV January 08, 2013 at 12:58 PM
Frederick Klien I own guns and I keep them secure in a safe how all guns should be kept this is what the law should be about keeping guns secure from individuals that are unstable or criminals it should be every gun owners responcibility.if they pass a law advertising gun owners names I will trump that by hanging a sign on my front porch saying I am a gun owner. Better yet send your kids to my house to play they'll be a lot safer than they are at your house because I am not afraid to protect them.
Frederick Klein January 08, 2013 at 02:14 PM
Um. Right.
Alrick H Man IV January 08, 2013 at 10:35 PM
