Is the Southport Post Office Necessary?

Local and federal elected officials are holding a public hearing about proposed changes in service at the Southport Post Office.

Is the Southport Post Office necessary? Or is a proposed 'rerouting' of services from the Pequot Avenue facility to the Commerce Drive post office sufficient?

According to the announcement, the hearing will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 30,  Senator Chris Murphy and First Selectman Tetreau are holding a meeting f "to hear (residents') concerns and opinions on mail being rerouted from the (Southport) Post Office to the Commerce Drive Post Office ..."

Tetreau's office said in the statement there is concern the service change could lead to "a potential closing or relocation (even though nothing has been sent in writing to our office or to the Senators’ offices who receives such USPS listings)."
