Letter: 'Obama is Being Caught in a Lie'

Resident Kevin Dillon explains what he knows about Obamacare.

The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is a 2,000-plus page bill of which Nancy Pelosi was quoted as saying, "We have to pass it to know what's in it."

I was recently reading articles that referred to aspects of this bill I knew would affect me personally. On July 14th, I called my Congressman, Jim Himes and spoke to a very nice person. I gave him three very specific questions about the act. He told me I would get an answer within two weeks. Three weeks passed and I called back. They had my questions on record but they were still researching it.

Fast forward to September 12th, two months since I first posed the questions, I received a call from Kevin in the Congressman's office. Once again, a very nice fellow. Here is what Kevin was able to confirm two months after being asked. Obama lied. Not Kevin's words but the truth. Do you remember this pledge: “I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.”

Under current law, you can deduct any medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. In order to find ways to pay for Obamacare, starting in 2013, he is increasing the threshold to 10%. A 33% increase. There is not an income qualifier for this increase. It applies if you make 40K, 100K or beyond or below. The only exemption is for those who are over 65. This is a tax increase. This is Obama being caught in a lie. You wouldn't know it based on the media coverage.

Another lie pertains to what they call The Cadillac Health Insurance Plan Tax. Starting in 2018, there will be a new 40% excise tax on taxpayers who are covered by high-cost health insurance plans (with premiums at or above $10,200 for a single or $27,500 for a family) regardless of income. I purchase my insurance directly from Anthem. They are currently requesting a 15% increase (btw what happened to 2500.00 decreases to premiums Mr. President). If they get it, my insurance goes to 21K.

If I average increases of 5% per year to 2018, I will exceed the 27,500 and will be subject to guess what? A new tax. This is as much an effort to bring in more revenue to pay for this monstrous bill as it is Obama’s ultimate desire for single payer, government run healthcare. It is what he always wanted and he is on video expressing that exact thought. So how many times do you, the voter, allow a liar to continue to lie without consequence? I say we have heard enough.

I encourage those who consider themselves independents to reflect on what you have just read. Ask yourself, do morals count? If someone makes a pledge to me and blatantly shatters that pledge, do I reward him with 4 more years or do I say, enough! He ran in 2008 with no record. He has one now, and it should not be ignored. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on us all.
