Letter: Obsitnik, DeSanctis 'Will Insist Upon Fiscal Responsibility'

Resident Tom McCarthy writes in his support of Republican candidates Steve Obsitnik and Chris DeSanctis.

With Election Day just a few shorts weeks away, everyone needs to think long and hard about the people we send both to Washington and Hartford to represent us. Our Nation and our State are desperately in need of a course correction. That correction needs to begin with leadership that understands our success as a nation does not come about as the result of bigger and bigger government, but rather it is attributable to a system based on freedom that allows us to pursue economic prosperity.

The simple fact is a free market is the most efficient mechanism for allocating resources and creating wealth. Government is bureaucratic in its nature. It is not agile; it cannot react like a free market.  It not only draws resources from the private sector, but through burdensome regulations, it often compromises the ability of the private sector economy to operate efficiently and create jobs.

It all begins with the economy and our leadership must understand this. In our own state of Connecticut, the population has remained stagnant over the past thirty years -- people leave this state in great numbers for less expensive, more business friendly places in which to live and work. Yet the size of Connecticut’s state government has almost tripled, all the while Connecticut has ascended the list of dubious distinctions including that of highest taxed, highest per capita debt, and worst state in which to do business.

Steve Obsitnik, candidate for United States Congress, and Chris DeSanctis, candidate for State Representative in Fairfield’s 133rd legislative district, will insist upon fiscal responsibility in a way that their opponents have either been unwilling or unable to get behind. They will work to reduce the massive bureaucracy, which has grown beyond that which we can afford.  Steve Obsitnik and Chris DeSanctis understand what steps need to be taken at both levels of government in order to improve our economy and create jobs, which is why I plan to support them
