Letter: 'Please Vote for Chris DeSanctis'

Resident Jeffrey Melaragno asks fellow residents of the 133rd district to vote for the Republican candidate.

Attendance in life matters -- whether it is a family function, a work meeting, or a state legislative committee meeting. Much has been said about Representative Kim Fawcett’s subpar attendance record at committee meetings. However, I believe it bears repeating that Ms. Fawcett only managed to attend about 53 percent of committee meetings during the 2011 and 2012 legislative sessions.  Ms. Fawcett’s response to the low attendance figures is that despite missing those meetings, she voted on 93 percent of bills while she has been an elected representative.

I liken this to a student only showing up for about half of school classes, but then bragging that this should not matter because he/she takes nearly all of the tests -- regardless of the outcomes on those tests.  he fact that Ms. Fawcett votes so frequently, yet may not be fully up to speed on what she is voting on should cause all voters to stop and think. Would you be able to skip nearly half of your classes, work meetings, or discussions with your family about important items, yet still make decisions that will have an impact on others?

It is time for a change in Hartford. Our current Democratic majority has led Connecticut even further away from an environment where sustained growth is possible and we simply cannot afford another two years of the same.  Connecticut’s local tax burden (state plus local taxes) is the third highest in all of the U.S. -- and over a full percentage point higher than even California.  Despite record increases on state taxes and fees, our budget deficit is even larger than it was last year. The fact is, Hartford cannot continue to increase taxes, fees, and spending and think that our state will become prosperous again.

Members of the 133rd district should open their minds to Chris DeSanctis.  Mr. DeSanctis understands that growth for all comes from cutting spending, reducing the tax burden, and reforming regulations. Doing so will make Connecticut much more attractive for individuals, families, and businesses alike. Time is of the essence to avoid even further financial difficulties. I ask that you please help get our state back on the right track by voting for Chris DeSanctis on November 6.

Like Romney...what are you going to try and cut? School funding? Maybe less cops? Roads and Bridge repair? Metro North? Chris talks a big game but when it comes to specifics he clams up like Romney and Linda. And with a full time job he will miss more meetings and votes then Kim ever did. Don't forget despite what Chris said, she was there over 90 percent.

How many more republican talking points letters are we to endure? How can the repubs be so right about everything, and the ones that get us out of the financial messes are so wrong? I'll decline to vote for DeSanctis, not only because he's a tea party member who signed on to the Grover Norquist pledge. I just don't believe these endless (and empty) promises.
Bob MacGuffie October 27, 2012 at 03:32 PM
The only ones with the endless promises are the Democrats - that's how they've maintained their majorities for decades - they live on that stuff. And the result is a CT that is the highest taxed and ranked lowest business-friendly state in the nation. Gov Malloy just proved to us that a $1.5 billion tax increase still can't balance CT's bloated govt budget. There's no more money folks and not a Democrat in the state including Kim Fawcett will even acknowledge it. We're out of other-peoples-money and this state MUST be re-established on a sound fiscal footing. That is task number one or we most assuredly will "officially" declare bankruptcy here. There's only one solution this election - vote for candidates like Chris DeSanctis, who will go to Hartford and address the states real problems.

No the democrats have actually maintained their majority for decades because a majority of Connecticut voters put them in office.

Cut Entitlement Programs.
Fairfield Old Timer October 27, 2012 at 04:51 PM
The majority of CT voters put Dems in office because the Dems keep giving them their FREE Housing, their FREE Fuel to Heat their Homes, their FREE Obama Phones and their FREE Gubment Cheeze! God Forbid these entitlement fed leaches ever do anything with their lives other than cranking out Rug Rats and Ankle Biters and feeding off the salaries of those that actual made something of themselves!
Frederick Klein October 27, 2012 at 05:08 PM
Free housing? Free fuel? Free "Obama" phones (whatever that means)? I'm clearly missing out on a lot of free stuff even though I keep voting Democratic.
Bob MacGuffie October 27, 2012 at 05:55 PM
Kim Fawcett and her Hartford bosses are anti-jobs, destructive to free markets, and intolerant of people who want to start and run small businesses. Kim followed her leadership by voting to reduce tuition costs by as much as $17,000 annually for undocumented aliens. While Fairfield’s moms and dads are struggling to foot the bill of higher education costs for their children, Kim decides that undocumented aliens should receive a virtually free education. Kim also voted to allow men dressed as woman to teach in our elementary public schools in Fairfield and statewide (2011 Bathroom Bill), not to mention allowing them to use women’s public bathrooms in malls. Completely OUTRAGEOUS. Kim needs to go… her priorities are wrong.

Better get it before their gone http://obamaphone.net/
Frederick Klein October 27, 2012 at 06:02 PM
So Obama is a bad guy because he wants to help the disadvantaged? Wow, Romney supporters are right. He must be the Devil himself for wanting to help the poor.
JimH October 27, 2012 at 06:07 PM
Actually it was a program started by Reagan and expanded by Clinton. Obama just branded it with his name just to make sure you know who to vote for in the coming election.
iamspartacus October 27, 2012 at 10:41 PM
You left out we have the highest per capita income level, and in top 3 for education levels...so somehow the democrats made us richer and smarter.
iamspartacus October 27, 2012 at 10:52 PM
hose men dressed as women must do a good job..CT has a higher high school graduation rate than dumb states like arkansas, north carolina, mississippi, well you know the rest they will be painted red on election day. Those states are also low taxes and more "business-friendly". By the way "business friendly" is GOP speak for "most like a third world country". Another shocker...those red "hate big federal government" states also lead in the return of federal tax dollar vs. money paid in, so not only are they dumb they are free loaders. So please do not let the Republicans turn Connecticut into Mississippi vote democrat
iamspartacus October 27, 2012 at 10:55 PM
and Bob is against the reduced tution because if the immigrants get an education who will cut his boy Willard's grass in Belmont Mass. See republicans only like immigrants if they can exploit them. And know after the 1%ers drove the economy into the ditch and won't let it all the way out they can just exploit regular americans

Sandra October 28, 2012 at 09:45 PM
the fact is every state that is going bankrupt is run by democrats worst schools -worst educated- most violent communities run by democrats for example Obama's Chicago Obama's thinks you cannot survive without the government OH! that's what he meant by "fundamentally transforming America" democrats exploit
Bob MacGuffie October 28, 2012 at 09:45 PM
What a pathetic view of half the population. We have finally reached the day the Liberals have long been warned of - you've borrowed and spent all the money - there aint no more. We're broke on Fed, State, and local level. I've yet to see one of you Liberals acknowledge the fact. You keep talking to yourselves as our ship-of-state takes on water ($4 billion of daily debt) every day. Its always been a mathematical certainty that following Liberal policies would deliver us exactly here. (and yes I mean Liberal policies enacted by Liberal Republicans) Malloy jacked our taxes $1.5 billion and pathetically can't even balance his first budget following that whipping. Face it - your utopian pipedreams are over. Now we all have to clean it up - it would be helpful if you recognized it and nominated some candidates acquainted with reality..........
