Letter: Time for a Change, Republicans!

RTM members write in their support of several candidates ahead of Tuesday's town-wide Republican caucus.

[Editor's note: The following letter was submitted by members of Fairfield's Representative Town Meeting.]

We wholeheartedly endorse Eileen Liu-McCormack and John Llewellyn for Board of Education in the open town-wide Republican caucus July 23.

Their unequivocal commitment to "Smart Spending" through fact-based decision making, community and parental engagement, greater academic and fiscal accountability, and student-centered priorities (instructional programs over costly administrative bureaucracy) are welcome indeed to those of us who believe we can achieve an even better education for our children at costs taxpayers can afford.

John and Eileen's distinguished careers in finance and practical problem-solving, as well as their contributions as imaginative and energetic PTA parent volunteers, make them ideal candidates to help tame nearly 55 percent of our annual Town budget. We also endorse the excellent "Smart Spending" candidates running for RTM in Southport District 1: Jay Lipp, John Donovan, Gaylord Meyer, and Eric Sundman.

After years of fruitful service on the RTM, David Becker would make a fine addition to the Board of Finance. If we are to advance the greatest good for our town, challenge of the status quo and productive collaboration are what we need now.
