Politics & Government

Letter: Tony Hwang, Role Model & Inspiration Toward Public Service

A letter to the editor in support of candidate Tony Hwang (R-134).

It is with great pleasure and honor that I throw my full political support behind , for re-election as Connecticut State Representative of the 134th District, representing Fairfield and Trumbull.

I first met Rep. Hwang when he served on the Fairfield RTM. At the time, I was a newspaper reporter at the Fairfield Minuteman. Rep. Hwang is more than a politician. I have seen, first hand, his dedication to public service. Never have I met anyone who serves his community so tirelessly. Rep. Hwang genuinely cares about the people he represents. He is the definition of a public servant making a difference in his community.

Rep. Hwang has been personally committed to many causes, including underrepresented and our most vulnerable populations. These important causes include his support of diversity and issues pertaining to the needs of the mentally ill and handicapped. This is evidenced by his support of the Kennedy Center; the Bridge House; the Alzheimer Association; Operation Hope for the Homeless; the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Fairfield, CT chapter; and the Disability Resources Center of Fairfield County. This list is by no means exhaustive because Rep. Hwang has served as advocate and supporter of so many other community-based organizations and initiatives.  Rep. Hwang is truly “Committed to his Community”.

On a personal note, Rep. Hwang has continually encouraged my academic and career goals. He has served as mentor and friend. His example of commitment to public service had a profound influence on my decision to begin a career in government. His example was an inspirational one. I realized that being a politician is more than assuming office, but it is really about helping people.

I can say with confidence and experience that Rep. Hwang cares about all of the people he serves and represents, regardless of political party affiliation. If re-elected, he will continue to work hard to represent you, the voter’s, interests in Hartford, with sincerity, and in a way that goes beyond politics. Rep. Hwang will make you proud about his legislative representation in Hartford. On November 6th, I strongly encourage you to vote for Rep. Tony Hwang.
