Gov. Dannel Malloy came to the defense of energy and environmental commissioner Daniel C. Esty Wednesday in response to a series of Hartford Courant articles disclosing that Esty accepted over $1.2 million in fees over the past five years for speaking engagements while serving as a Yale University professor, particularly from electric companies under the scope of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the former Department of Public Utility Control.
According to the Courant, Malloy told reporters during a keynote speech at a Connecticut Conference of Municipalities meeting, that while Esty has some rules to learn for his new position and could have handled the situation better, there is no conflict.
