Meeting Scheduled on Valley Road Bridge Rehabilitation

Bridge has been rated "poor" by state of Connecticut officials.

A public information meeting will be held this week to discuss the rehabilitation and replacement of the Valley Road Bridge over Horse Tavern Brook, a bridge that has been rated “poor” by the state.

The bridge has been identified as a priority by the Connecticut Department of Transportation and has been included in the Federal Local Bridge Program, meaning the costs of the project are eligible to be reimbursed at 80 percent by the state.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. at Stratfield School, 1407 Melville Ave., Fairfield and all residents, business owners, commuters, and other interested individuals are encouraged to attend and discuss the proposed project.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be approximately $1.6 million. After Fairfield is reimbursed, the local share of the cost will be around $368,000, according to Public Works Director Rich White.

A first phase in this process was an approved agreement between Fairfield and the state in June 2012, which covered the development of engineering plans and cost about $185,000.
