Only 50% of Metro-North Service Available for Commuters
Metro-North says trains will only 50 percent of weekday capacity will be available as Con Ed repairs continue.

New Haven Line advises that customers traveling eastbound through the vicinity of Mount Vernon East should anticipate delays of up to 15 minutes due to a power failure in the area.

Monday means the beginning of the second week of commuter hell for riders on the Metro-North New Haven Line.
According to Metro-North, "Temporary substations and power provided by Con Edison are not sufficient to operate full New Haven Line Service on Monday, Sept. 30. The reduced power provided by these temporary substations only allows Metro-North to add a limited number of trains through the 8-mile section between Harrison and Mount Vernon, providing approximately 50% of normal service. As a result, a special schedule is still in effect."
Displaced New Haven Line commuters now have two temporary options for parking in Westchester for the Harlem line: Playland in Rye and Kensico Dam Park in Valhalla.
Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino has authorized the opening of two temporary parking areas to give New Haven Line commuters access to trains on the Harlem Line.

Free parking and free shuttle buses will be provided from the parking areas at Playland in Rye and Kensico Dam Park in Valhalla.
Commuters who park at Playland will be taken to the White Plains train station, about 10 miles away. Commuters who park at Kensico will be taken to the North White Plains station, just over a mile away.
Under a plan coordinated with Metro-North, both parking areas will be open at 4:30 a.m. daily and shuttle buses will start running at 5 a.m.

Shuttle bus service will continue throughout the day. The focus will be on the morning and evening commute and the schedule will be assessed daily.
According to a statement from Gov. Dannel Malloy, “All indications right now point to another tough commute. Even with some electric service restored, there will be very limited service and significant overcrowding on trains."Malloy added, "If at all possible, I would urge residents to consider working from home or shifting their time of travel to off-peak periods. If you have to drive, considering carpooling. Our state Department of Transportation is continuing to do their best to ensure that travel on the roadways moves as efficiently as possible during this situation.”
Although temporary transformers were installed over the weekend that will allow electric trains to operate from New Haven straight through to New York beginning Monday morning, only 50% of morning peak capacity on the New Haven Line will be available.
