POLL: Do You Support DeLauro's Diaper Legislation?

Bill introduced by U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro would allow low-income families to pay for diapers using public assistance.

Earlier this month, U.S. Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro, D-3rd District (which includes Middlefield and parts of Durham) introduced the Diaper Investment and Aid to Promote Economic Recovery Act (DIAPER) Act.

The bill, according to DeLauro, "will help to relieve some of the stress on families facing hardship in this economy by allowing diapers to be provided as a direct service, instead of as an administrative cost."

As Susan Campbell of the Hartford Courant reports, public assistance programs do not currently allow the purchase of diapers.

Gov. Malloy has declared Thursday, Oct. 27 Diaper Awareness Day in Connecticut.

Editor's Note: The Diaper Investment and Aid to Promote Economic Recovery Act (DIAPER) Act does not require an increase in appropriations.

I kept reading, hoping that this was a joke. There are so many potential punch-lines here that I am going to request a one day extension before my next post.

What ever happened to washing diapers? I know it's not the nicest thing in the world, but why should the general public pay for a luxury? It is a luxury. What did the millions of people do before diapers? I'm actually starting to resent working. We are just giving and people just keep taking.

It's no joke. DeLauro is the epitome of the "cradle to grave NANNY state" socialists! Communist Joelle Fishman is also one of her closest bffs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LST0AYwfBI Rep. Rosa DeLauro: Still Hangin’ With the Connecticut Communists 9/16/2011, Trevor Loudon "Rosa DeLauro ...is particularly close to another long time friend of communist causes, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. It appears that ...Rep. DeLauro still thinks it is appropriate to work closely with Marxist-Leninists. Rep. DeLauro is very  close to Connecticut Communist Party leader Joelle Fishman, the daughter-in-law of late Soviet spy and Communist Party USA activist Victor Perlo. "Joelle Fishman also heads the Communist Party’s Political Action Commission, the Party body charged with pushing the Communist agenda through the Democratic Party. As DeLauro has been in charge of appointing Democratic Congressmembers to various Congressional Committees, she has been in a position to move the Communist Party’s many friends in Congress onto Committees that best serve the communists'  goals. …"That one of Congress’ most powerful Democrats should be on such close terms with one of America’s most influential communists should not be surprising. "Many members of Congress have close ties to the Communist Party. "Rosa DeLauro is simply a little more blatant than most." The complete article, with video, is at New Zeal.

I'd like to point out the Editor's Note: The Diaper Investment and Aid to Promote Economic Recovery Act (DIAPER) Act does not require an increase in appropriations. What this means is that people who receive assistance can choose to use the money for diapers. There are no extra funds going to people to buy diapers; it's simply allowing for the choice to use public assistance funds for diapers. Diapers are expensive, cloth or disposable, and necessary. Millions of people are out of work and families who used to be middle class are landing on hard times. There aren't jobs to be had. As a society, we should help those in need because it is the right thing to do.

Here's a Simple Solution:
Don't crank out rug rats if you can't afford to adequately provide food, clothing and shelter WITHOUT Public Assistance. <Rant Over>
Mara October 27, 2011 at 12:13 pm
It is ignorant and cruel to not allow people already on government assistance to use these monies to buy diapers. NO ONE in this country got to where they are without a hand out or a leg up. This bill isn't asking for an increase to pay for diapers (though that wouldn't be so terrible), it's just asking to allow diapers to be in the category of what can be subsidized. Have a little heart, people.

I just never believe it when a politician says somethig won't cost the taxpayers a nickel more.
Let's see....X per cent of welfare money will now officially go toward diapers. This will decrease the discretionary dollars by X per cent. Fast forward a year or so and Rosa and the gang will be saying that we need to bump up welfare payments by at least X per cent because the "clients" now have less to spend out of the check on other stuff.

Dannel 88 has hopped on this bandwagon now, with "Diaper awareness day"! Not kidding--even Sean Hannity quoted the story from the Hartford Courant.
DeLauro is working to make most Americans *dependent* upon BIG government in just about every aspect of their lives--probably soon to include adult diapers. According to her it is only SS that causes people to love and care for their older family members. "'The genius of the Social Security system is that it ties generations together,' emphasized Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) at the August 2010, kickoff event for Social Security's 75th birthday held at the Communist Party USA run New Haven People's Center by the Connecticut Alliance for Retired Americans (ARA). 'I pay in for my mother during my working life, and in the future my children will pay in for me,' she said, adding that ** it will never become insolvent.**"... http://keywiki.org/index.php/Rosa_DeLauro SS will "never become insolvent"??? What do you call currently paying OUT more than is being taken in??? Not to mention the some 16 TRILLION $$$ in *unfunded SS liabilities* (which does not include the unfunded liabilities for Medicare/Medicaid 81 TRIL $$$ and the Prescription drug program)!!! :-(

Heh Fairfield Resident, and what is your intellectual response to those who already cranked out the rug rats BEFORE they were in need of public assistance? Give them back? Perhaps add them to the rolls being handled by the Dept. of Social Services?
Daria October 28, 2011 at 01:42 am
There are many people in need of assistance, not just those thoughtlessly cranking out "rugrats" as they have been called. We are talking about children here and children who are left in too long in soiled diapers means they are exposed to uncomfortable rashes which in turn make them irritable, which leads to unnecessary stress on both parent and child. Diapers are incredibly expensive, although living in Fairfield county where people have their kids running around in 100 dollar uggs and northface jackets is much more admirable than allowing someone to have a choice between diapers or food....

Tell you what, Michelle, if you care about this so much then YOU pay for it from YOUR pocket. Not me. We're going to fight back.
Alexander B. C. December 17, 2011 at 10:28 pm
What you're saying is ignorant, foolish and doesn't make sense. If you care about it so much, you pay for it and don't count me to do it, or most of CT. What you're motivated from is a toned down version of class envy, which is nonsense, put forward by the democrat criminals looking to secure votes. BTW, dan malloy is an idiot.

Atticus, Ralph Arnone is next scheduled to appear in court on July 1st, at which point he isRead More expected to enter a plea.
