Poll Shows Obama's Lead Growing in Connecticut

Connecticut will likely remain blue this November when it comes to voting for the president. The Senate race is far less certain.

Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama are busy fighting for key battleground states throughout the country, and Connecticut is mostly uncontested. A poll from Siena University shows Obama with a huge 15-point lead in the state.

Obama leads by a 53-38 margin with 7 percent of voters undecided.

“At this point, Connecticut’s electoral votes appear solidly blue as the President has opened up a 15-point lead with a commanding margin among Democrats and a five-point bulge among independents,” said Don Levy, director of the Siena Research Institute in upstate New York, in a written statement.

The Senate race remains much closer. Polling shows U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy leading Linda McMahon by a 46-44 margin.

“Connecticut residents now have high negatives towards both McMahon and Murphy with over one in ten viewing both candidates unfavorably,” Levy said. “Murphy is underperforming relative to the top of his ticket while McMahon has more support among most groups than does Romney.  This one may be decided on who turns out and how the last minute deciders feel as they walk into the polls on November 6th.”

Other polls have found similar margins in the Connecticut Senate race.

Neither side is getting a landslide in this election. If you are hopeing for a landslide when the country is so divided, then you need to wake up.
Sandra October 20, 2012 at 10:57 PM
Reagan was "vague"? We elected "hope and change" remember? Obama has not given any specifics for the next four years but you would like to know what loophole Romney would eliminate. Obama is not held accountable for any of his broken promises and his campaign accuses Romney of lying about his promises if elected. can we then call Obama a liar for promising to cut the deficit in half but then doubling it for example? Carefu;lly consider Obama leaving us with $20 trillion in debt.
Micki Martin October 21, 2012 at 02:44 PM
@Sandra - Obama and other Democratic candidate's signs are being stolen all over town as well, and I am sure you know that. Signs don't win elections. It just could be that people from both parties are stealing their own candidates signs to get them for free. If you really care about your candidate stop worrying about your signs and go canvass, phone or help your team in a positive way. Your silly generalizations about liberals being born into money and elite are just that...silly generalizations. I too, am a NY transplant, although I have lived in CT for 20 years. I was not born into money but worked hard and I have created my business from start. My entire family, who came to this country, are the same. I am voting for President Obama, Jim Himes and Chris Murphy. I educated my kids in public schools. I pay my taxes at a higher rate than Mitt, and probably Linda too. I have no confidence that Mitt or Linda care about me. If Mitt and Linda are such devoted conservatives, why are they tacking to the left and becoming moderate now at the end of their campaigns
Frederick Klein October 21, 2012 at 04:45 PM
Maybe I'm not comfortable voting for someone who used a foreign trip to convert people to his religion as a way to get deferred from serving in a war that he supported and protested in favor of.
Frederick Klein October 21, 2012 at 04:47 PM
It's very possible that Romney could win. But either way, it won't be a landslide. I don't hate Romney, so I will get used to saying President Romney if necessary. I do, however, hate what his Tea Party-infested Party has become, and I do hope that he loses for that reason. The Tea Party is today's version of the Know Nothing Party.
Frederick Klein October 21, 2012 at 05:06 PM
And I'm not ok with a lot of things about how the country is right now (although I question whether it's accurate to call Obama anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian, suggest that he caters to the Muslim world, and to call a 2-week mistake that was corrected a "scandal"). I do not have amnesia, however, and I remember what a mess Obama inherited, and knew it could not be fixed in 4 years. Obama's biggest mistake was, in my opinion, his speech to the Democratic Convention in 2008 when he made too many specific promises that I knew it would be impossible for him to keep. I'm willing to give him another 4 years to keep trying rather than handing the reins back to the GOP (which might as well call itself the Tea Party at this point).
Sandra October 22, 2012 at 01:49 AM
How does Obama show he cares? He is just all talk. Hasn't met with his job council in over 7 months. He has only attended 50% of his national security meetings. He has no plan to lower debt and deficits. No plan to save medicare and social security no specifics on how he will magically create 500,000 manufacturing jobs. He promises investments which is code for more Stimulus. We know he wants to raise taxes on the evil rich so he can invest in more loser companies. As a woman you don't find his attendance on Letterman, The View and Jon Stewart during the Lybia crisis/scandal shameful? And YES he did go to Vegas the very next day after our ambassador was killed. Your kids will thank you when your Obama vote leaves them $20 trillion in debt if re-elected. Connecticut is a fiscal disaster led by tax and spend democrats. You deserve who you vote for.
Sandra October 22, 2012 at 02:13 AM
Why doesn't the media articulate such a simple concept? Guess it doesn't fit into the class warfare narrative handed to them by the Obama administration.
Frederick Klein October 22, 2012 at 02:30 AM
Now tell me how much Romney cares about me.
Sandra October 22, 2012 at 03:18 AM
Romney cares about America going bankrupt and burdening generations with the irresponsible out of control government spending. He will work across the aisle to bring some fiscal sanity. Romney has a proven record. Obama has broken promises. You Fredrick do not care for the 50% of Americans who pay federal income taxes. Obama will be coming for you too to pay your fair share at the end of his heaven forbid 2nd term.
Fairfield Old Timer October 22, 2012 at 03:34 AM
I'll 2nd that Sandra! Vote Republican if you want to save this Sate and our Country!
Frederick Klein October 22, 2012 at 01:00 PM
Um, Sandra? I pay federal income taxes.
Sandra October 22, 2012 at 02:38 PM
Good for you. 36 Obama aides owe $833, 970 in back taxes. Chris Murphy will fit right in.
Frederick Klein October 22, 2012 at 03:08 PM
So are you suggesting I vote against Obama because some of his aides owe taxes? I'm really enjoying your cogent arguments.
Sandra October 22, 2012 at 03:16 PM
No I am suggesting you vote against Obama because he is a total failure. Obama has misled us long enough. His re-election "is not optimal"
Micki Martin October 22, 2012 at 03:45 PM
Let's look at Romney's record. As Governor of MA, he raised or created more than 1,000 taxes or fees on people across the state while giving a small group of uber-wealthy MA citizens a tax break. Job created in MA plummeted to 47 of 50 under his watch, and the debt burden in MA during his term was the highest in the nation. Yeah, he had those binders of women though! At Bain, well...he loaded some companies up with debt and then split them up. He shipped Americas jobs overseas. Yes, yes all you Romneybots, I know he had some successes in turning around companies at Bain too, but the fact is that he also put some Americans out of work. Bain got paid for either creating or destroying jobs. You cannot,no matter how you try, change the fact, that in a quiet moment, when he thought he was amongst friends, he blew off almost half the population and said they were not his concern.
Micki Martin October 22, 2012 at 03:49 PM
Also Sandra, you should be careful making statements about Congressman Murphy being late on payments which he subsequently paid in full, when Mrs. McMahon, a multi-millionaire has been habitually late on the property taxes on her various homes. Habitually. Also, she had 50 mil to put in her campaign in 2010 and plenty of money for lots of stuff but never even tried to do the right thing in over 35 years and pay back the creditors for the $1mil she stiffed them in bankruptcy? She said she did not know how to find them yet it took a third party no time at all? Now she makes a big deal of paying some, not all, of her creditors, and only many years later when the light was shone on her??? What hypocrisy. She claims she cannot be bought...let's hope that the citizens of Connecticut are smart enough not to be!
Frederick Klein October 22, 2012 at 03:51 PM
The killing of Osama bin Laden on his orders was not a failure. The passing of his healthcare legisation -- even if you disagree with it -- was not a failure. Raising the debt ceiling against all efforts of the Tea Party congressional freshmen was not a failure. Establishing a credit card bill of rights was not a failure. Bringing our Middle East wars to a close was not a failure. Seems to me your assertion that he is a "total" failure is a bit of an overstatement. His biggest failure is that he is not a magician who could not fix the Bush Administration's disastrous policies in just one term. Because he cannot resort to magic and can only act within the realm of reality, he should probably be given another term to see if he can fix those disasters. (I know, I know, you'll say that I'm just another Democrat/liberal who can't stop blaming Bush, but the man was a -- what were your words? -- "total failure".)

Sandra, don't waste your breath on Freddie and Micki they are clear ObamaZombies that have drunk the Kool-Aid. I submit to you they bathe in it as well. BTW Donald Trump to reveal October Surprise by Wednesday and head of the Joints Chief of Staff was seen at the DC Walgreens stocking up on Depends for the entire Cabinet. The Truth shall set you free. Maybe the breaking news is that Obama has figured out his goose is cooked and has signed on to NBC's Apprentice featuring failed Democratic slug politicians. Elliot Spitzer, Jesse Jerkson Jr., John Edwards, Chris Dodd, et al and a special appearance by Jimmy Carter's grandson you know the unemployed video playing living in the basement misfit who broke wide open the 47% story (spun out of context by Desperate Chicago Machine) on Romney. What a joke!!. He was expressing political strategy and focus of advertising efforts to the feeble brained who want to believe otherwise,
Sandra October 22, 2012 at 04:41 PM
First Micki you are just as misleading as your source of information- barackobama.com. Obama has been running this false ad about Romney cutting taxes only for the rich garbage and raising 1000 taxes on everyone else. Factcheck .org basically debunked the ad according to MA taxpayers foundation. Second, MA was ranked 50th the year before Romney and at the end of four years it was 28th. Again check your facts. Binders and Big Bird will not win you points. Women groups offered those binders Obama's women left his administration complaining about their treatment--ask Anita Dunn who said "it was a hostile workplace" Millions of Stimulus dollars went overseas. Our money as opposed to Romney investing his money. Obama has put 23 million Americans out of work with no plan. Romney's 47% gaffe was a result of trying to discuss campaign strategy. He was NOT saying he didn't care for the well being of Americans. Like Obama saying he doesn't have to worry about Latinos so much because he's got their vote in the bag. Americans have to watch Letterman The View, Jon Stewart to find out what the president is doing in Lybia because he won't give a press conference. "So insensitive- "bumps in the road" Not optimal"
Sandra October 22, 2012 at 04:50 PM
You should stop spreading the Obama lies Micki. I am saddened that CT is content with more of the same.
Micki Martin October 22, 2012 at 04:56 PM
OOOO Trump...I am scared....
Sandra October 22, 2012 at 05:02 PM
America should be scared of four more years of Obama
Micki Martin October 22, 2012 at 05:05 PM

James R M.D. October 22, 2012 at 05:07 PM

JOBS is a four letter word- just sayin when you have something important to share let us know
Micki Martin October 22, 2012 at 05:10 PM
haha...the people advocating Bush redux are telling me I have to be scared. Last post of the day folks. work to do. Gonna phone bank for the Democratic ticket. Suggest you get off the computer and go do some real political work if you are really committed. over and out
James R M.D. October 22, 2012 at 05:17 PM
Didn't Senator Obama himself say he was not ready for the job? YES. Didn't he only have some 139 days of experience in the Senate? YES Didn't he vote present most of the time? YES Didn't he praise Jeremiah America hater Wright? Didn't he buy a house at a deep discount from Tony Rezko who is now in jail? YES Didn't he do cocaine? YES Didn't he lie to the nation on LIBYA? YES Didn't he go to Vegas the very morning after? YES Didn't he go on the VIEW, Letterman, Daily Show? YES Didn't he go to Jay-Z Beyonce "uber" wealthy fundraiser? YES Didn't he call these tragic assassinations mere "bumps in the road"? YES I am running out of ink........................
James R M.D. October 22, 2012 at 06:31 PM
You know what REAL work is?.....dealing with people like you. Put down your talking points and start dealing in facts and thinking on your own. Just sayin'
Micki Martin October 28, 2012 at 08:26 PM
How silly. Signs are disappearing on both sides. This is no indication of anything for either candidate.
