Property Auction Looms as Delinquent Taxpayers Scramble to Get Caught Up

As of Monday more than half the delinquent taxpayers on the list had paid up, according to a report in the Fairfield Citizen.

The 's upcoming , scheduled for July 26, has reportedly had a positive effect on its collection of delinquent taxes.

According to a report in the Fairfield Citizen, as of Monday more than half the delinquent taxpayers on the list had paid up. As a result the town has collected about $975,900 of the $1.6 million in back taxes it was owed by local property owners as of .

Property owners on the list will no doubt continue to pay the back taxes and associated penalties over the next several weeks in order to avoid having their properties auctioned.

The list is comprised of residential properties on which more than $50,000 in back taxes is owed, as well as commercial properties on which more than $20,000 is owed.

As of early March the list — a $35 million, 20-acre waterfront estate on Sasco Hill Road owned by Bradley Jack of Westport and Karin Jack of Fairfield. The couple, however, reportedly paid the back taxes of $271,923 later that same month.
