Stamford-based Gen Re Gives Back BIG to Norwalk Nonprofit

We love it when a plan comes together and last week we were thrilled to help organize a truly outstanding collaboration between one of our local nonprofit partners and a local corporation.

Last Tuesday, volunteers from Stamford-based Gen Re’s Global Audit Department hosted a family fun night at Norwalk Community College for all of the kids enrolled in the after-school program at Norwalk-based Family & Children’s Agency.

The mission of Family & Children’s Agency is to help children and families here in Fairfield County realize life’s potential. FCA offers a wide array of services to the local community – from homeless services to addiction recovery to support for senior citizens. The After School Program  is one of its most impressive and the Gen Re volunteers brought great energy to the event.

Vice President at Gen Re Rich Manz helped coordinate the event.

"Gen Re associates love to volunteer,” said Manz. “We do approximately 10 events a year. In this case our Global Audit Department wanted to spend time together outside of the office but in a way that gave back to the community. Volunteer Square helped point us to FCA and we are really proud of our family fun night. We had a great time and think the kids did too.”

The Gen Re volunteers helped to organize a fun game night – with Jenga, raffles, prizes and pizza and dessert – for more than 70 kids and families.

Manager of Volunteer Services Mayx Holmes said the night was a great opportunity for the kids to engage with adult volunteers but also to spend some quality time with their families.

“Middle School is a time when children tend to pull away from their parents so we were thrilled to offer this event for them to connect with each other," said Holmes. "We are grateful for the generosity and hard work of the GenRe volunteers and for VolunteerSquare for bringing them to us.”

The After School Program at FCA strives to provide a safe, structured environment where middle school students can work to improve their academic performance, develop character and promote healthy relationships and lifestyles. The program meets weekdays from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at Norwalk Community College and you can learn more about the program and how it works by checking out FCA here
