Really 4.5 Stars.
A pristine, 10-acre, 20+ stall schooling barn, Salko is immaculately upkept and somewhat of a hidden jewel--just down the road from the FFC Hunt Club. The main barns are set back from the road and there is no roadside sign, so it’s easy to miss. We loved the riding environment here—it lacks the cutthroat competitive nature and airs typical of area show barns. As such, it’s a great stable for first time riders all the way through more advanced levels. And Salko is currently the only southwestern Fairfield County barn competing with its own newly formed team on the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) circuit.

Owners Chris and Teddie Salko do a really wonderful job of offering a high quality lesson environment.

The barn is a very well-run and organized partnership between owners and head trainer, not an easy feat given the last minute scheduling changes inherent to this business.

My daughter began here as Salko begins all riders--with private, level-appropriate lessons that later moved into a group setting. Instruction is reasonably priced and provided by two top-notch friendly and dedicated trainers who really devote their full attention to the riders during the entire lesson--key to a safe lesson. My daughter’s seat (in-saddle awareness and skills) has really grown with head trainer Andrea Zaleski, who also heads the barn’s IEA team. The barn is popular so time slots can book up.

Salko offers a wide range (20+) of good quality horses housed in 3 barn-red barns that provide the backdrop for this beautiful setting. They are well cared for and receive daily turnout. Higher level riders are offered the option of grooming and (un)tacking their mount.

Some lessons are taught in the smaller outdoor ring, but the majority of lessons are in a well-lit, screen-enclosed indoor ring. It’s a nice change from a completely enclosed indoor ring that allows both light and breezes to flow in.

My daughter enjoyed showing in the closed Schooling Shows--popular with all levels of Salko riders--offered throughout the year.

I can highly recommend Salko and we will always treasure our fond Salko memories acquired as my daughter advanced there!
