Fairfield Celebrates Diversity, Gay Youth

“That’s so gay.” “What a fag.” “Dude, don’t be such a homo.”

Those words -- and others like them -- are heard every day, all across America. Including Fairfield. But times are changing. Teenagers are coming out as proud gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in high school, even middle school. Friends, parents, relatives, teachers, coaches and ministers are standing up as straight allies, countering anti-gay language and misguided stereotypes.

On Thursday, March 15 (7 p.m., ), all high school and middle school students, and adults, can participate in a discussion on the importance of standing up for GLBT youth. Learn what’s going on with today’s youth -- and how you can help.

Dan Woog (author, gay activist, and the openly gay soccer coach at Staples High School) and Rev. Jennifer Habetz (Associate Pastor at First Church Fairfield) will lead the discussion. Audience participation is invited.
