Fairfield Public School Students! You Be the Judge at the Food Day Iron Chef Competition

Monday, October 24th has been named Food Day by Center for Science in the Public Interest. They are calling for America to “eat real” – safe and healthy foods that are farmed sustainably, in conditions that are safe for workers and humane for animals.  Fairfield Public Schools (FPS) and Fuel for Learning Partnership (FFLP) are doing their parts by calling on FPS students to do the same during two ways that day:  eat Food Day’s school lunch and stop by the Food Day Iron Chef Competition at Warde High School.

Monday’s FPS school lunch supports Food Day by featuring school-made vegetarian chili, whole grain brown rice, fresh tossed salad, and locally grown apples. Thanks to Whole Foods Market, FPS and FFLP take it up a notch with a Food Day Iron Chef competition.  From 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Warde High School Cafeteria, three local chefs – Wayne Uccellini, cafeteria manager at Osborn Hill School, Michelle Ryan, Whole Foods Market chef, and Shawn Russell, chef of Cinch and Sherman School parent will be competing to win over the taste buds of Fairfield’s students.  They have each been given a list of ingredients from which to devise a school lunch entrée that is both delicious and follows the federal nutrition standards.  Students from the district are invited to stop by Warde High School’s cafeteria-any time-from 4 to 7pm to sample the dishes and cast a vote for their favorite.  The winning recipe will be featured on December’s lunch menu.  We’ll see you there and good luck to the chefs!!
