Track the Titanic Through Historic Publications at the Fairfield Public Library

Dr. Mona Garcia will be Tracking the Titanic as part of the One Book One Town celebration.  Dr. Garcia will be lecturing at the Fairfield Public Library Woods Branch, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road, on Monday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m.

On April 15, 1912 the seemingly unthinkable happened with the sinking of the Titanic.  One hundred years later technology and how we get our information has changed drastically. Dr. Garcia will provide your GPS as you navigate Google Books, Internet Archive, the Historic New York Times and the Historic Hartford Courant to reveal the reactions of the public in 1912 and how they received the news of the sinking.

Dr. Garcia taught European history at the college level and is on staff as a Reference Librarian in the Fairfield Public Library system.  She has presented papers at academic conferences in the United States and Great Britain, and has publications in her field of English history, one of which has been included in the Royal Historical Society Bibliography.
