Veteran and Author of Until Tuesday presents at Fairfield Public Library

The relationship between man and dog is an amazing thing. “Until Tuesday” describes this bond from a new perspective. The author of “Until Tuesday” will visit the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road on Wednesday, December 7 at 7 p.m. Former Captain Luis Carlos Montalván and his dog Tuesday will hold the discussion in the Memorial Room. “Until Tuesday” describes how the powerful bond with man’s best friend can change a person’s life. Montalván is a highly decorated army veteran, who had two tours of duty in Iraq. Montalván suffered from several injuries while in Iraq and they only became worse after he returned home. Haunted by his emotional and physical injuries, he began to drink and withdraw from life. It was not until he was introduced to Tuesday, a service dog, that his life changed. Tuesday had worked amongst prisoners and troubled boys. He had been trained to work with the disabled and knew how to turn on lights and open doors. Unfortunately, Tuesday had a difficult time trusting or connecting with any humans before meeting Montalván. Together, they saved each other. “We aren’t just service dog and master; Tuesday and I are also best friends. Kindred souls. Brothers.” Montalván earned his master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. He is a 17 year army veteran and has received a Purple Heart as well as a 2011 Voice Award by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Visit the Library on Pearl Harbor day and meet Captain Montalván and Tuesday. Books will be available for purchase and signing by the author.
