Fairfield CMT, CAPT Scores Mostly Improve From Past Year and Past Four Years

One-Year Decline Most Evident in Grade 5

The 2010 Connecticut Mastery Test and Connecticut Academic Performance Test results for Fairfield show mostly positive results over results in 2009, and, in some instances, strikingly positive results over test results from 2006.

CMT test results are for grades 3 through 8. The CAPT results are for grade 10.

The most evident decline, from 2009 to 2010, came in grade 5, in which the percentage of students "at or above state goal" declined in three of four subjects - reading, writing and science. Math results increased slightly, by 1.2 percentage points. The results in math, reading and writing, however, were higher than four years ago; in math, the percentage of 5th graders at or above state goal jumped from 74.2 percent in 2006 to 86 percent in 2010.

But the drop that shocked school officials last fall - when grade 10 students meeting state goal in science fell from 75.8 percent to 61.2 percent - rebounded in 2010, with 67.2 percent of students meeting state goal.

Improvement of at least five percentage points in the CMT from 2009 to 2010 could be seen in grade 6 reading results, in which the percentage of students at or above state goal climbed from 83.5 percent in 2009 to 89 percent in 2010.
