Fairfield Schools to Open Next Tuesday

Downed wires, outages and road closures led the superintendent of schools and others to push back the opening date to next week.

With eight Fairfield schools without power and 25 roads closed, town officials on Tuesday announced that school will start on Sept. 6, instead of Sept. 2 as planned.

Officials from the first selectman’s office, maintenance and transportation departments, police, public works, fire department and United Illuminating reached the decision together, according to a press release put out by Superintendent David Title.

“Of concern are numerous fallen trees, debris and downed power lines that are scattered across town and may cause unsafe travel conditions,” Title said in the release.
