The Fairfield High School Music Departments announced earlier this month that 28 students were accepted to the 2013 Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) All-State Music Festival.
The students spent two full days of rehearsals in Cromwell, Conn., in April and performed in a concert featuring all of the ensembles at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, according to the Music Parents Association.
To be considered for acceptance into this annual festival, students had to audition for and perform in the Western Region festival held in January at Darien High School. After this festival, a second round of auditions was held in February at North Haven High School for the purpose of selecting the top musicians from the four regions in Connecticut.
Students who are accepted into the All-State festival must have consistently demonstrated a high degree of musicianship and technical facility.
Students rehearsed and performed with top conductors from around the United States during the festival in April. This included preparing advanced repertoire and working to achieve a high level of ensemble skills.
The Band was conducted by Dr. Jack Stamp of Indiana University of Pennsylvania; the Orchestra was conducted by William Boughton, music director of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra; Dr. Patrick Walders of San Diego State University conducted the Chorus and Ronald Carter of Northern Illinois University directed the Jazz Ensemble.
