Selectmen Move Forward with $14.5M Riverfield School Project

The Board of Selectmen approved Wednesday a $14.5 million bond resolution to finance the Riverfield School expansion and renovation project.

The vote was unanimous, according to Jennifer Carpenter, First Selectman Michael Tetreau's Deputy Chief of Staff.

The project includes an addition of classrooms to the building to eliminate the need for portable classrooms; upgrading all building and safety codes; upgrading the school's core facilities; installing a new fire sprinkler system; and installing a new fresh-air and air-conditioning system.

The Riverfield School Building Committee stated in its request to the Board of Selectmen, "a working environment that is conducive to focused work, free from health and security concerns, is where we believe Fairfield should strive to be leaders."

Thus the committee asked the selectmen to back the $14.5 million option proposed and the board complied.

The project will next go to the Board of Finance for approval.
