Solution to Fairfield's Tomlinson Traffic in the Works

A new drop-off area for parents could be completed in November.

There is an end in sight to the traffic headache.

A solution to school’s bus loop and drop-off area congestion could be in place sometime in November, Town Engineer Bill Hurley said.

Hurley, members of the police department and school officials are working on a redesign plan to provide parents a separate drop-off area on the south side of the school, away from the bus loop.

“We don’t want to make the drop-off too inconvenient for parents,” Hurley said. “We want them to use it.”

The plan is currently under review by a police commission. Hurley said he and a team will go out to the site later this week or next week to see if the plan needs to be modified.

“The goal is to construct it this season,” he said. “We’re looking at November.”

Because the redesign only affects an area already set within the school’s property, it only needs to go through a few approvals, Hurley said.

Hurley estimated the entire project would completed in about a month to six weeks.

“The wanted it done sooner,” he added, but the police commission wanted to see a few revisions before giving the plan the go-ahead.

The plan will increase parking space in an area crowded by buses and commuters using the train station nearby train station. It will also eliminate the need to dropping off and picking up their kids.

The cost will be determined once the plan is complete and gets the commission’s green light, Hurley said. It will be a relatively low-cost project, he assured.
