New Rochelle Store Selling Thanksgivukkah Yarmulkkahs

This article was written by Michael Woyton

You have your turkey? Check. You have your sweet potatoes? Check. How about your Thanksgivukkah yarmulkkah?

With the first lighting of the menorah for Hanukkah on Thanksgiving Eve, this is the first year since 1888 that the two holidays overlap. And it won't happen again for another 72,000 years.

To celebrate, Inspiration Gallery in New Rochelle is selling an exclusive yarmulke decorated with both a menorah and a turkey. On the underside is written "Thanksgivukkah Yarmulkkah 2013/5774," referring to both the Gregorian and Jewish calendar years.

Shop owner Edna Krausz said she came up with the design and had it manufactured just for her store.

She said the item has turned out to be extremely popular.

"I'm probably going to have to place another order for them," Krausz said.

"It's really a commemorative item," she said. The yarmulkkah is available in blue or orange.

The yarmulke isn't the only Thanksgiving/Hanukkah-themed product in the store.

There are nut-free chocolate pops in the shape of turkeys and boxes of Thanksgiving chocolates embossed with turkeys and "thank you" in 17 different languages. Lactose-free chocolates are also available.

Special-order chocolates with embossed messages can be turned around in four or five days, Krausz said.

She said her business isn't limited to New Rochelle.

"They come from all over," Krausz said, "from Mount Kisco down to Brooklyn."
