Author, Commentator Frank Deford to Speak at Museum's Education Series for 'It's a Hit!'

 Frank Deford, renowned author and commentator and a Westport resident, will discuss his books on baseball at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the Fairfield Museum and History Center.  The program is part of an ongoing baseball education series in conjunction with "It's a Hit! A Hometown View of Our National Pastime," the museum's signature exhibition about baseball history, which runs through Jan. 2, 2011. 

Deford will discuss his books on baseball, including "The Entitled: A Tale of Celebrity, Sex and Baseball" and "The Old Ball Game: How John McGraw, Christy Mathewson, and the New York Giants Created Modern Baseball," and his newest novel, "Bliss Remembered," which was published in July 2010 by the Overlook Press and combines the world of sports with international intrigue.

The American Journalism Review cited Deford as the nation's finest sportswriter; The Sporting News has described him as "the most influential sports voice among members of the print media," and the magazine, Gentlemen's Quarterly, has called him "the world's greatest sportswriter."

He is a regular broadcast correspondent on "RealSports" with Bryant Gumbel and is a senior contributing writer at Sports Illustrated Magazine.  He has been elected to the Hall of Fame of the National Association of Sportscasters and Sportswriters and was voted as U.S. Sportswriter of the Year six times.   Twice, Deford was voted Magazine Writer of the Year by the Washington Journalism Review.  In broadcast, Deford has won both an Emmy and a George Foster Peabody Award.
