Pequot Library’s Third Annual Derby Day, celebrating the 137th Run for the Roses, will be held on the Library Lawn on Saturday, May 7 from 4pm – to 7 pm. It is a truly fun day and helps raise the funds to meet the Library’s budget for the year. Dress for the Derby, and enjoy frosty mint juleps, Kentucky fare, live race coverage, and prizes. The highlights of the afternoon are the tailgate parties.  Attendees can opt to bring their own car and tailgate set-up, or even upgrade with a car provided from the Classic Car Gallery in Southport for an additional donation to the Library.

This year the event will include a 50/50 raffle to benefit the library, where raffle tickets are put in bowls for each horse and winning tickets picked from those of the horses that win, place, and show.  A high definition  system will project the race on the large screen in Pequot Library’s Auditorium where the cheers become deafening as the horses make the far turn and head down the last stretch for the finish line.  Kentucky fare will be provided by The Shack Hometown Grill, in Fairfield

The Derby Day is taking on many new sponsors for the event this year including Lilly Pulitzer Fashions, Connecticut Cottages and Gardens, M Communications,  and Brenda Lynn Hats and Accessories, which will be showcased in an exciting new “Derby Marketplace”.

Under the enthusiastic leadership of Ted Lahey, Graham Michener, and his wife, Jane Michener, this event will be a winner. Also on the Derby Day Committee are Don Burton, Treef Rosow, Brad Essig, and Jim and Tawn Hahn.   Tickets and tailgating spots are still available, but going fast, so go online to the Library’s website (www.pequotlibrary.org) or call Robin Jerrild at (203) 259-0326 ext. 13 to secure your place at the race!
