Fairfield 10-Year-Old Girls Softball To Be Honored By the Town

A ceremony is set for Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Sherman Green

The Fairfield 10-year-old girls' softball All-Stars will be honored by the Town of Fairfield during a celebration on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Sherman Green Gazebo.

Some members of the Boards of Selectmen and Finances will be attending the ceremony, which is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

During their postseason run, the 10-year-old All-Stars have won district, section, state and New England championships. On Saturday, they take on New York for the Eastern Regional title.

Of course, this is not the only Fairfield team that has enjoyed success during a remarkable summer for the town.

The Fairfield 12-year-old girls All-Stars also won the district two title, while Fairfield American captured district, section and state crown in the 10- 11- and 12-year-old boys' divisions.

In addition, the 10-year-old boys (18-1) took home the New England title and are playing New York on Saturday in the finals of the Eastern Regional Invitational.

The three boys' teams have a combined record of 46-2. The 12-year-old All-Stars (15-1) dropped their first game of the postseason Friday, falling to Rhode Island, 2-0, in the opener of the New England Regionals in Bristol.

They will be back in action on Saturday (8 p.m.)  against Vermont at the Giamatti Little League Center.

The 11-year-old boys, who did not play beyond the state championship level, finished 13-0.
