Fairfield American Little League Wins District II Championship

Fairfield beats Westport, will play in Division I tournament next week.

The Fairfield American Little League baseball team will play in the Division I tournament next week after defeating Westport 8-3 to claim the District II title Saturday afternoon at Unity Park in Trumbull.

It was the second time in three years, and third time in five years, that Fairfield American has captured the crown.

P.J. Egan pitched a complete game to improve to 4-0 this summer while Ian Bentley was 4-for-4 and Jamie Fink and Vince Camera had key home runs. Camera was named the tournament's MVP.

"Our motto for the whole team is we do it together," American head coach Mike Steed told Mary Albl of the New Haven Register/GameTimeCT.com. "And we have different heroes every night; and that's the beauty of this team is they pick each other up"
