Fairfield American Takes On New Hampshire in New England Regionals

After a day off Sunday, the team is looking to move closer to the semifinals

After an off day Sunday, Fairfield American is back in action Monday (8 p.m.) against New Hampshire in the New England Regionals in Bristol.

After three days of competition, Fairfield American is tied for third with three other teams at 1-1 - New Hampshire,  Massachusetts and Maine. Rhode Island (2-0) , which beat Fairfield American, 2-0, is in first place,  and Vermont (0-2) , which lost to Fairfield American, 7-4, is in last place.

The top four teams move on  to the single-elimination semifinals on Thursday. With a win over New Hampshire, Fairfield American will be in good position to advance.

Through two games, Nate Klein (.500, 2-for-4), Nick Nardone (.400, 2-for-5) and Patrick O'Leary (.333, 1-for-3) are Fairfield American's top hitters. O'Leary's one hit was a two-run home run that snapped a 4-4 tie in the win over  Vermont.

Attendance for Fairfield American's first two games in the New England Regionals is way down compared to what Glastonbury National - last year's Connecticut champion - drew in its opening two contests.

Glastonbury National averaged 2,703 fans, compared to Fairfield American's mark of 1,368 through two games.

The difference could simply be due to the fact that Fairfield (51 miles) is a bit of a longer drive to Bristol than Glastonbury (26 miles).
