Fairfield National Blue Wins Nine-Year-Old All-Star Tournament

Defeats Trumbull National in championship series to finish 7-0 in tournament

Fairfield National-Blue recently defeated Trumbull National to capture the eighth annual Fairfield nine-year old tournament championship.

Fairfield National-Blue  swept the best-of-three series, winning the opener, 3-2, and the second game, 9-6, on Saturday in eight innings.

In the second contest, the locals grabbed an early 3-0 lead, only to have Trumbull National scored six  runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-3 lead.

Fairfield National-Blue responded with three runs in the top of the sixth to send the game into extra innings.

The winners also had a dramatic win in the series opener, rallying from a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the sixth.

Fairfield National-Blue went undefeated in the tournament, winning seven games to  secure the 2010 title.

In 2003, Fairfield National Little League and Fairfield American Little League  joined forces to co-host a nine-year old All-Star tournament and provide a venue for Little League players to experience All-Star competition at a younger age.

In 2010, the Fairfield tournament grew to include 12 teams from around Fairfield  County.

Participating teams included Easton, Fairfield American, Fairfield  National-Blue, Fairfield National-Red, North End, North Stamford-Blue, North  Stamford-Red, Stratford, Trumbull American, Trumbull National, Westport, and  Wilton.

During a two-week period in July, 29 baseball games were played,  culminating with the championship series involving the top two teams.
