Fairfield Rugby Club Wins New England Title

Team to play in Northeast Regional this weekend in West Point

The Fairfield Rugby Club recently won the U19 New England Rugby Football Union playoffs to qualify for the Northeast Regional playoffs this weekend in West Point, New York.

The Fairfield team, comprised of players from Ludlowe and Warde High Schools, will meet Union City of New Jersey, which won the Metro New York U19 title, on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. If Fairfield wins that game, it will play again on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

The squad, which qualified for the New England championships by winning the Connecticut Rugby Union title last year, defeated Berkshire United U-19 (MA), 28-0, and Cheshire Rugby Club, 19-14, last Sunday to advance.

Tries were scored in the first game by Tom McNamara, Dylan Thomas, Karl Rempe and Dan French.  Thomas and McNamara (2) also scored in the second game. Karl Rempe converted 6-of-7 tries on the day.

Fairfield also received strong performances from Marcio Ventura, Will Passmore, Mike Jacob and Matt McDonald.
