The Fairfield Warde Gridiron Club has agreed to sponsor The Jim Parry Foundation in the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut's Walk for Wishes Hero Parade.

The gridiron club has pledged $250 to The Jim Parry Foundation, which was founded in 2010 as a non-profit organization to both support firefighter causes and firefighters in need.

The Foundation was started by Tim Parry, a Fairfield native and the founder of the FCIAC Football Blog, in honor of his brother. Jim Parry, a retired Lieutenant in the Fairfield Fire Department, died suddenly in August at the age of 55. Parry started the foundation so that his brother's legacy of giving back to others could continue on.

"My brother loved his fellow firefighters and would do whatever he could to help them in times of need, no questions asked," Parry said. "He was like that with people he never met, too. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back."

Parry decided to put a team together for the Walk for Wishes Hero Parade after he learned members of the Fairfield Firefighters Local 1426 were volunteering at the event in his brother's honor.

"Jimmy donated New York Giants tickets to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut every year, and he never made a big deal out of it," Parry said. "He just wanted to make a wish come true."

When Fairfield Warde head football coach Duncan Della Volpe heard what Parry was doing, he asked the Fairfield Warde Gridiron Club if it could help the cause. Though the club supports the Mustangs by buying on-field equipment, providing pre-game team meals and supporting the team's efforts to attend camps and clinics, the club also looks to give back to the Fairfield community.

"As a program we decided it is important for our team to reach out to those in need," Della Volpe said. "We wanted to recognize a great man in Jim Parry by giving the funds equal to the donation he had given in the past to Make a Wish. If they choose to send a worthy person to a sport related function so be it, we only care that we helped out someone well deserving."

Della Volpe said the club also recognizes Tim Parry for all his passion and dedication to high school athletes and the coverage he has provided Fairfield County, and that was an easy choice to help someone who has helped Fairfield youth in many ways.

David Wolff, Jordan Irizarry, Chris Foley, Mike Money and Dario Pugliano, the captains of the 2011 Warde football team, presented a check to The Jim Parry Foundation on Thursday.

"Our wish comes true once a week in the fall by being able to play a football game," Della Volpe said. "We hope to help make someone else's wish come true."

The Walk for Wishes Hero Parade is a non-competitive three-mile walk and parade to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut. This year's event will take place Saturday, May 14 at Jennings Beach.

"Seeing kids in the community want to get involved and give back to an organization like the Make-A-Wish Foundation is so exciting and we cannot thank people like the Fairfield Warde Gridiron Club and The Jim Parry Foundation team enough for their incredible support," said Michael Dominick, Communications Manager, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut.
