The Fairfield alpine ski team is entering the 2012 season with high hopes and great expectations. Coach Gary Quiricone and his son Rick hope to repeat as the coaches of the state championship teams.
In 2011, both the boys and girls teams won the Connecticut state championship. Although both groups have lost some key racers who have graduated, there is still a core group of athletes who have tremendous talent.
On the girls team, there is Kelsey Tague, Lydia Brown, Angie Walker, Eliza Wiant, Sydney Burton, Lauren Craighead and Emily Agid returning from last year's squad.
Tague had a top-10 finish in the state championship race last year and Lydia Brown was right behind her in 13th place. Walker also has tremendous talent, finishing 18th in last year's final.
The boys team has tremendous depth with Kyle Mason, Ben Hawthorne, Hamish Dewar, Jack Zierolf, Matt Chan and Andrew Kirkpatrick, who will try to win the state championship again.
Mason and Hawthorne earned all-state honors last year and also qualified for the Eastern Regional finals in New Hampshire.
Kirkpatrick adds depth to the boy's unit s he made All-State honorable nention last year.
